Looking ahead to 2025
I ’ m pleased to submit my first letter as St . Louis Park mayor to the Sun Sailor Community Guide ! As I write this , I ’ m marking just over six months since I was sworn in as mayor in January 2024 . A lot has happened since then !
This summer , I kicked off the first-ever State of the Community tour . I wanted to try something a little different and bring the state of the community to you , instead of the traditional one-time-only annual event . I ’ ve attended the fireworks celebration , Rotary Summer Concerts , Fishing with a Cop , Walk the Park , Skateapalooza and National Night Out . From helping kids apply “ I love SLP ” temporary tattoos to introducing musicians to walking our parks , I ’ ve enjoyed meeting residents one-onone and talking with you about your hopes Nadia Mohamed and dreams for the city . I look forward to seeing you at more fall events !
Speaking of hopes and dreams , the city has kicked off its fourth citywide visioning process ! Every 10 years , the City of St . Louis Park reviews and updates the strategic priorities that staff and elected officials use to guide planning and decision-making . The last visioning process led to the creation of strategic priorities for the City of St . Louis Park around housing , getting around the city , environmental stewardship , race equity and inclusion , and community engagement . Look for opportunities over the next year to provide input about the city ’ s future as part of this process . I ’ m excited to hear more about what you envision for the next ten years for St . Louis Park !
In May , the long-awaited Cedar Lake Road reconstruction project started with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by a host of federal , state and local elected and appointed officials who helped direct funding to this $ 29.1 million project . Combined with Louisiana Avenue reconstruction next year , this project will provide equitable opportunities for transportation to underserved populations , improve neighborhood livability , and replace existing facilities at the end of their useful life . Also this year , Hennepin County started reconstructing Minnetonka Boulevard from Highway 100 to France Avenue . This work includes lane reconfigurations and realignments , improved pedestrian connections to reach the Beltline Boulevard and West Lake Street light rail stations , bike accommodations and streetscape improvements . The opening of Arbor Court , 3801 Wooddale Ave ., and Mera , 9808 and 9920 Wayzata Blvd . added more than 345 rental units , including more than 160 affordable rental units , to the city ’ s housing stock . These developments will help draw a wide variety of residents to St . Louis Park and ensure we remain a community of choice to live , work and play for years to come . The city ’ s third Juneteenth celebration drew an enthusiastic crowd , as did the National Day of Racial Healing event in January .
