Police an active partner with community

The mission of the St . Louis Park Police Department is to provide citizens with quality service , professional conduct and a safe environment in which to live , work and learn . The police department is committed to an active partnership with the community to work together to solve problems and prevent crime .
Officers build relationships with community members through a variety of community reach activities , including Neighborhood Watch , National Night Out , Cops ‘ n ’ Kids Holiday Shopping , Fishing with a Cop , Coffee with a Cop , Basketball Night in the Park , Citizens ’ Police Academy , Skateboarding extravaganza and Twins game day with students .
The department , which began in 1934 , has 63 sworn officers , six community service officers , a K-9 officer and 18 additional staff members , including administrators , support staff , dispatchers and a community liaison .
In an emergency , individuals should dial 911 whether it ’ s related to a police , fire or medical issue .
The city maintains its own dispatch center that answers more than 50,000 calls for service annually . The top five calls for service include traffic stops , theft , suspicious activity , alarms and welfare checks .

St . Louis Park ’ s police officers must meet the minimum requirements of a postsecondary degree from a regionally accredited college and completing a board-approved Professional Peace Officer Education program . Alternative routes to becoming a police officer in St . Louis Park include the cadet program and Pathways to Policing program .
The police station , at 3015 Raleigh Ave . S ., across from St . Louis Park City Hall , houses the emergency communications and 911 center , administrative offices , the city jail , and training and meeting rooms .
As part of Hennepin County ’ s coordinated medicine disposal program , a medicine dropbox is available in the police department lobby 24 hours a day , seven days a week for the disposal of prescription , over-the-counter and pet medicines .
To provide police officers with resources in the neighborhoods they serve , the police department operates three substations ( COP Shops ) throughout the city . COP Shops are equipped with all the necessary resources for officers to write reports , meet with community members and maintain a presence in the neighborhoods . COP Shops are located at :
