Expanding Excellence in Neonatal Care Beyond State Lines

In 2024, Children’ s Hospital Colorado solidified its position as a leader in pediatric healthcare by expanding its renowned neonatal care services beyond state borders through a new partnership with Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Wyoming. This collaboration underscores Children’ s Colorado’ s commitment to providing top-tier healthcare to neighboring communities.
A partnership built on trust and excellence
The partnership with Ivinson Memorial Hospital began with a contract signed in July 2024, and by Sept. 1, 2024, services were fully operational. This swift implementation was a result of meticulous planning and a shared vision of enhancing neonatal care in Wyoming. The introduction of a neonatal nurse practitioner( NNP)-directed care model, the first of its kind in Wyoming, allows newborns who would have required transport for specialized care to receive it locally. Every infant born at Ivinson Memorial Hospital now receives expert care from the NNP team throughout their hospital stay, which offers newborns top-notch neonatal care without requiring families to leave their community.
This innovative partnership has garnered attention from the Wyoming governor’ s office, which recognizes the program’ s potential to reshape healthcare in underserved regions. By emphasizing collaborative medicine, the partnership also highlights the role of NNPs in providing expert care while fostering education and skill development within multidisciplinary teams in rural settings.
Measurable outcomes and broad impact
Children’ s Colorado’ s highly trained NNPs have been instrumental in delivering specialized care to a community that previously lacked resources for high-risk deliveries and preterm babies needing resuscitation and stabilization. By providing these critical services locally, families may avoid the stress and disruption of out-of-state transfers. This family-focused approach ensures that patients and caregivers receive the best possible care while remaining close to their support systems.
Moreover, Children’ s Colorado NNPs are integral members of the interdisciplinary team at Ivinson Memorial Hospital, working alongside local providers, nurses and respiratory therapists. They not only deliver exceptional care but also mentor and teach essential skills and competencies, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. This collaborative effort has significantly enhanced the quality of care available in the community, demonstrating our commitment to a broad and lasting impact.
