Reimagining care with a dedicated inpatient medical unit to provide rehabilitation care
On Dec. 10, 2024, Children’ s Colorado’ s newest inpatient unit opened on the top floor of Anschutz Medical Campus. This 19-bed acute care unit is specifically designed by members of our multidisciplinary team to provide inpatient rehabilitation care to pediatric patients as well as those with chronic technology dependence, including ventilators and other life-sustaining equipment.
Patients with technology-dependence benefit from this environment that supports developmental care and therapies. The unit’ s rooms are larger than standard inpatient rooms, and each is equipped with a ceiling lift to support safe patient handling. The unit also features three gyms, a patient activity room, a therapy kitchen, a classroom and more to support the integrated care model and provide a supportive environment for our patients and their families.
Bringing care closer to home for Denver’ s South Metro Region
On Aug. 21, 2024, Southeast Aurora Outpatient and Urgent Care facility became Children’ s Colorado newest site in Denver’ s South Metro Region.
Southeast Aurora Outpatient and Urgent Care quickly became a beacon for this community. Its services include over 20 medical and surgical clinics, radiology, outpatient laboratory, sports therapy and an 11-bed urgent care, bringing specialty and urgent care closer to home for many kids and families. The new clinic and expansive services replaced a location in nearby Parker, Colorado. Since its opening, access to clinic and urgent care visits have increased over 50 % compared to the prior year at the previous location.
Expanding specialized expertise in our Grand Junction community
2024 was a year of growth for the recently opened Outpatient Care facility in Grand Junction, Colorado. The new site allows Children’ s Colorado to expand efforts in providing close-to-home care for patients and families living on Colorado’ s Western Slope. Before this site opened, Children’ s Colorado was only providing limited pediatric care in Grand Junction, in collaboration with St. Mary’ s Medical Center.
The new community-focused site has nine exam rooms and state of the art medical equipment. This site hosts a pulmonary clinic as their primary clinic and welcomed many sub-specialty clinics in 2024. These clinics include cardiology, developmental pediatrics, endocrinology, genetics, lifestyle medicine, neurology, rehabilitation and gastroenterology on a rotating basis.
In 2024, the site completed 2,197 patient visits compared to 1,426 patient visits in previous years. Most notably, the Western Slope’ s access to pediatric gastroenterology has increased tremendously. In 2023, Children’ s Colorado gastroenterology completed 28 patient visits in Grand Junction. In 2024, this number increased to 274 patient visits. Currently, the site is looking to provide further opportunities for growth and expansion with additional clinics in 2025.
Standing two stories tall and spanning 39,000 square feet, Southeast Aurora Outpatient and Urgent Care quickly became a beacon for this community. Its services include over 20 medical and surgical clinics, radiology, outpatient laboratory, sports therapy and an 11-bed urgent care, bringing specialty and urgent care closer to home for many kids and families.
