2024 PCS Annual Report: Leading Together | Seite 24

“ Human-centered leadership has proven to be a valuable and important time to learn and reflect. In a time where the world seems to value extremes, human-centered leadership allowed us to take a moment and consider what balance looks like in our own lives as leaders. This has been a helpful exercise in considering when to put your head down and work hard, and when to take a moment to breath and take care of yourself. Finding this balance is so important to showing up as our best selves and being able to effectively lead our teams.”
SCOTT FRIELING, MBA, MS, RN, CPEN
Clinical Manager, Emergency Department and Inpatient Unit at Children’ s Hospital Colorado South Campus, Highlands Ranch and Southeast Aurora Urgent Care
“ The human-centered leadership program is essential for developing leaders who can inspire and empower their teams with empathy and authenticity. Through self-reflection, participants gain a deeper understanding of their own leadership styles, strengths and areas for growth, enabling them to lead with greater self-awareness. The program equips leaders with the tools to effectively guide and motivate others, fostering an environment of trust and collaboration. Compassion is at the heart of this learning journey, as it teaches leaders to connect with their teams on a personal level, demonstrating care and consideration that enhances overall team performance and well-being.”
“ While working through the book the team felt incredibly proud of where we are as a leadership team. Many shared that it was great validation towards their practice as a leader and the culture we promote in the NICU. It reaffirmed the individualized care we strive for in meeting our direct reports where they are and truly tailoring our leadership approach to the person, not the title.”

“ Exploring human-centered leadership principles with critical care leaders was a transformative experience. This leadership model aligns closely with the core values of healthcare leaders and was natural to apply to our leadership practices. Participants showed courage and vulnerability with each other while reflecting on their own performance. By emphasizing caring, trust, and empowerment, leaders committed to strategies to build resilient teams, improve patient outcomes, and foster a culture of continuous growth and innovation. As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, this leadership philosophy offers a guiding framework to navigate challenges of complex systems while remaining committed to the well-being of our most precious resource.”
