Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital | Welcome

Several years ago , I stood among the ruins to see the remaining pillars and foundation stones upon which was reportedly built the oldest hospital in the known world . It was called an Asclepieion , as a temple of healing dedicated to the Greek god , Asclepius . The Asclepieion is located on the Greek island of Kos which was the early home of Hippocrates who came to be known as the Father of Medicine . This temple of healing was operated upon the principles of Hippocrates . As I made my way around these stones the thought going through my mind was not how medicine was practiced in ancient time , but rather the vision necessary to conceive of the mere idea of building a hospital .
All important endeavors must first begin with vision . That was true for Asclepieion and true today for Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital . The vision was to build a specialty hospital dedicated to care for patients with cardiovascular diseases .
The result of this vision is evident in the lives of thousands of patients who have been treated by extremely skilled physicians on the medical staff using advanced equipment and techniques .
As proud as we are of our hospital today , it is not enough without the vision of how this hospital will evolve , adapt and ever improve . Our Board of Managers , administrators , physicians , nurses , and staff remain dedicated to the vision of what our hospital will become .
Kent Newsom , JD Chairman , Board of Managers
Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital in Waxahachie has been up and running for nearly a year and has seen continued growth . We have added new physicians , reached new patients in the growing local community and have added to the ability of our Waxahachie colleagues to refer patients locally for hospital-based cardiac care .
The Dallas and Fort Worth campuses have also worked diligently to manage the growing demand in these communities , as well as expansion into new areas of technology such as pulsed field ablation ( to treat arrhythmias ) and renal denervation ( to treat resistant hypertension ).
In Dallas , there has been an expansion of our imaging services with the addition of a new CT scanner , as well as new outpatient centers such as our Lipid Metabolism Center , Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center and Women ’ s Heart Center , to name only a few . We have also continued to add new physicians to our staff in all three hospitals , allowing these areas to help more patients in a more timely fashion .
The future of the Heart and Vascular Hospitals looks bright . While the future may bring changes , I know that we will continue to focus on the best ways to help our patients . I have little doubt that we will continue in our mission to provide the best possible cardiovascular care in the area , if not the nation .
