Hypertension Center
The Hypertension Center ’ s goal is to partner with patients diagnosed with resistant hypertension over a period of approximately 12 weeks to achieve normal blood pressure numbers by using risk factor modification through a collaborative approach among the patient , his or her primary care provider and the Hypertension Center care team . The center ’ s multidisciplinary care team includes :

In fiscal year 2023 , the American Heart Association certified Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital — Dallas Hypertension Center as a comprehensive hypertension center . The certification recognizes an organization ’ s commitment to following proven , research-based treatment guidelines to care for people with complex or difficult-to-treat hypertension .
Renal denervation now commercially available
Two new treatment options for patients with resistant hypertension are now available at Baylor Dallas . The hospital was the first in Texas to commercially use both an ultrasound and radiofrequency renal denervation system . The procedure , complementing medication and lifestyle changes , uses energy to ablate the renal nerve and reduce nerve activity to gradually reduce blood pressure , all without damaging the surrounding arteries .
After more than a decade of dedicated research as the leading enrollment site , this major step forward is a promising medical advancement for patients and communities . “ This procedure is incredibly effective at reducing blood pressure ,” said Robert Stoler , MD , the site ’ s principal investigator . “ This technology will help patients get better control of their resistant hypertension . Many patients with hypertension are under 50 , so this technology can greatly improve their lives for decades .”

Resistant hypertension is defined by the 2018 American Heart Association scientific statement , by the 2017 American College of Cardiology ( ACC )/ AHA hypertension guidelines , and by the 2018 European Society of Cardiology and European Society of Hypertension statement as blood pressure that remains above goal in spite of concurrent use of three antihypertensive agents of different classes . The team at the center strives to help patients “ get to goal ” within 12 weeks of referral .
