The Wynne Yellowjackets are coming off of a down season in which they still made the playoffs . That simply shows the tradition , expectation , and rich history of Jacket football . Wynne will look to build upon last season ’ s rebuild in which they started as many as a dozen sophomores at times . “ Some of those guys were thrown into the fire , so now we get to rely on that experience ,” explained Wynne Coach Clay Totty . The veteran coach enters his second season at the helm of Yellowjacket football . Wynne will rely on multiple players returning on the offensive line which has traditionally been a strength for

the Jackets . Siler Holbrook will start at quarterback . “ He ’ s a mobile quarterback . He ’ s got a good arm . He ’ s a good runner . He allows you to do different things . You can run the option with him . You can run the play action or drop back with him . He ’ s got some guys that can catch the ball and has some guys with experience that can run block which we did a lot last season but can also pass block .” Coach Totty hinted that you may see more in the passing game this season . Tight End Cooper Thompson is a player that Holbrook will look to connect with potentially out of play action . Anthony Smith is another player that could see targets . Cameron Smith returns to play running back . Smith rushed for just under 1000 yards last season . Smith played both sides of the ball as he was also Wynne ’ s leading tackler . Look for Wynne to be very multiple on defense . Senior Corey Johnson will help to anchor the defensive line . He ’ s a big body that will look to get to the quarterback . Sy Marrs finished with all-conference honors after recording 95 tackles and a trio of interceptions and will look to help lead the way on defense at linebacker . “ I think great competitors love a challenge and we have some great competitors . Whether we measure up is to be determined but that ’ s why you go play the games . If you want to be the best you got to beat the best . Wynne , Arkansas has strived to be the best for a long time .” It ’ s been a minute since Wynne finished as conference champs , but they have the makeup to do just that . Expect the Yellowjackets to challenge Valley View and Harding Academy for a conference title and make a run come playoff time .
