After two years in the 7A Central , the Jonesboro Golden Hurricane return back to the 6A East for head coach Tyler George ’ s second season . JHS made strides in the state ’ s biggest classification with a 5-6 record last season and a trip to the playoffs . The Hurricane hope to use that momentum in the 6A , but it won ’ t be easy in another tough conference . Jonesboro returns plenty of depth in all skill positions including junior quarterback Asa Myers . Myers completed 63 % of his passes for 997 yards and 10 touchdowns in the eight games he appeared in last season . Myers will have a stable of running backs to hand off to as well . Two time All-Conference back Markeice Stafford returns for his senior season where he looks to get more touches at running back . Classmate Sam King makes a similar move from defense to the backfield as well . Juniors Demarkus King and TJ Brown could provide depth as well . Senior receiver Kelen Smith had 15 catches for 280 yards and two touchdowns last season , while Myreion Taylor hauled 15 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns of his own at tight end . Nigel Bell , CJ Williams , and Brayden Sledge could give the Hurricane a few more weapons . Up front , J ’ darius McCray posseses big time strength at right tackle , while fellow senior Cash Colburn returns for his third season starting . Seniors Justin Fulton , Jonah Hill , and Jaylen Daniels complete the line up front for the power spread Cane offense . The Jonesboro defense returns more starters than the offense . Stafford leads the way at linebacker where he earned All-Conference with 73 tackles , 3 interceptions , and a defensive touchdown . KJ Anderson was another All-Conference performer at linebacker with 55 tackles , four sacks , and one interception . Avion Jones earned All-Conference with 23 tackles and four interceptions in the secondary . Desmond Golden , Trevion Burton , Kylan Dixon , Tyler Craig , Eric Blocker , and Coradius Miles will all rotate in on the defensive line . Stafford and Anderson will be joined by Jabari Price and Kenneth Douglas at linebacker , while Jaques Jordan , Jalen Alexander , Junior Smith , and Jamarion Nelson complete the secondary . Alex Glomski and Spencer Green with battle for kicking duties , while Kolton Armstrong handles long snapping duties . The return to 6A should be a welcome sight for the Golden Hurricane , although there is plenty of talent in the league . NEA Sports predicts that Jonesboro will battle at the top of the conference and earn a playoff spot .
The mighty Mustangs of Buffalo Island Central are ready for another exciting season of golf . Traditionally , the Ponies have had a great deal of success on the course . This season they find themselves in a bit of a rebuild . “ This year ' s team will determine a new identity for BIC golf ,” stated BIC Coach Tyler Herring . “ We have many beginners and second year players who are still learning the game .” On the boy ’ s side the team is led by Andrew Hill . “( Hill ) is expected to lead our team this year . He is the only senior and will play with the number ones in most of our matches this season .” Kell Gathright brings some past experience to the table and will be expected to help pick up the slack . Additionally , Cayden Davis , Weston Taylor , Braxton Littlefield and Sypher Sherrod all return from last season ’ s group . Newcomers for the boys include : Jansen Hawkins and Jake Hurst . On the girl ’ s side Kendra Towell will be the Lady Mustangs top player . “ She will be our team leader for the girls . She is our only female senior and is coming off of a third-place team finish at state last year . Anistyn Bryeans is the only other returning player . Newcomers for the girls include : Aubrey Clayton , Avery Davis , Maci Shrable , and Haddie Wells . “ The goal of our team this year is to compete each day . The goal is to learn to shave several strokes off per round by the end of the year simply by learning and understanding the game better .” The Mustangs will likely fall somewhere in the middle of their conference while hoping to find their way into state .
