PROSTART

INVITATIONAL

Each year , Alaska ProStart hosts the Alaska ProStart Invitational at Lucy Cuddy Hall , UAA . Two segments of competition occur at this tremendous , all-day event : Culinary and Restaurant Management . High school student teams enrolled in a state ProStart school are challenged to succeed within narrow parameters ; Culinary teams are required to produce a 3-course menu with no electricity and no running water within 1-hour ... Management teams must stand and deliver a fully formed business plan to a rotating panel of industry professionals , complete with floor plans , design , SWOT analysis , and thoughtful budgets . These feats are not easy for adults , and these high school students are out there being AMAZING !
The winners of our State-level competition advance to the National platform , representing the Great State of Alaska as the finest we have to offer ... our elite ! This year ’ s Team Alaska was comprised of a Culinary segment from Juneau ’ s Thunder Mountain High School led by Chef Jay Watts and a Management segment from Delta Junction ’ s Delta High School helmed by Chef Anne Stoneking , had a strong showing at the
National ProStart Invitational
On April 26-28th in Baltimore , Maryland . We at Alaska CHARR were excited and honored to be part of their success ! If you are interested in helping the future of Alaska ’ s industry grow via mentorship , demos , product donation , or coaching , please reach out to Chef Rebecca Giedosh-Ruge , Alaska ProStart Manager .
