Himalayan Pet Supply cofounders Nishes Shrestha & Suman Shrestha met for dinner one night in 2003. Suman noticed Nishes’ dog happily chewing on a piece of Churpi: Himalayan hard cheese that is preserved utilizing centuries-old techniques still practiced today by the people of Nepal. With Nishes’ help, they were inspired to utilize the same cultural technique to make a high-quality chew for dogs.
Himalayan Pet Supply, winner of AWB’ s Manufacturing Excellence Award for Innovation, established an exclusive partnership with Manaram, a local organization in Nepal that is certified by the World Fair Trade Organization. Together, they specifically focus on providing access to education for women and girls with efforts to improve women’ s employment rate, advocate for fair wages, end child marriage, and improve women’ s literacy.
