FORMATTING & COMMON TERMS
Italics / Bold / Underling - Use bold or italics for emphasis . Names of publications ( e . g ., Show & Trends Guide ) should be in italics . Names of specific articles within publications should be in quotes .
Page Numbers - Should always be listed as only the number and does not include a prefix like ‘ Page ’ or ‘ Pg .” Page numbers can be placed in the bottom footer of the page either centered or on the right side .
Percent - The % symbol should be used in all written communications , as opposed to spelling out the word ‘ percent ’.
Email - Use “ email ” without a hyphen .
URL - When listing a website in text , it ’ s ok to include www . For example , our website would be KeHE . com or www . kehe . com .
Links - All links should be bolded , underlined , and set to one of the primary KeHE colors whenever possible .
Acronyms / Abbreviations - Spell out the full name or word the first time it appears in the body copy . You may use the acronym / abbreviation if you repeat it in the text .
PUNCTUATION
Ampersand - Use the ampersand in all show name titles and any other place that is not a complete sentence .
Periods - Only include one space after a period . Use a period after the bullet list that completes the opening sentence that introduces it , or a bullet list that includes complete sentences . Use either all full sentences in your bullet lists or all fragments .
Hyphens - Always include a space before hyphens and a space after them unless used to hyphenate a word .
Commas - Always use serial comma formatting . This means placing a comma before the “ and ” or the “ or ” in a series ( exhibitors , brokers , and retailers ). A comma is also used when two complete sentences are within a sentence .
Quotation Marks - Periods and commas should be placed inside the quotation marks . Semi-colons and colons are placed outside of quotation marks .
Apostrophes - Only use apostrophes to show possession ( John ’ s cat ), show the omission of letters ( don ’ t = do not ), and to form plurals of letters , numbers , and symbols ( the 1960 ’ s ).
Gender Terms - When possible , avoid using gender terms such as “ he ” and “ she .” Use plurals (“ they ”) whenever possible . Pay attention , however , to the matching of tenses . “ He ” or “ she ” takes a singular verb “ He does ,” “ She walks ”), while “ they ” take plural verbs (“ They did ,” “ They walk ).
