Proven Seed has two forage cleaning and processing facilities in Western Canada , one located in Carrot River , SK and the other in Fairview , AB .
In addition to cleaning and manufacturing of forage products each facility contracts forage seed production with growers across Western Canada . Working with growers in Saskatchewan , Alberta , British Columbia , and Manitoba they produce high quality alfalfas , fescues , bromegrasses , timothy , wheatgrasses , and clovers .
Each facility conditions the forage seed with the use of specialty equipment such as multiple blenders , color sorters , and mud busters . This ensures the customer receives top quality forage seed . With a combined warehouse space of 125,000 sq / ft and 700,000 BU bin storage , the facilities can store the cleaned seed until it is needed by the numerous Nutrien Ag Solutions retails or sold on the wholesale market . The use of multiple blenders helps with the ability to fill orders , like custom blends , quickly and efficiently .
The Carrot River facility also has a fully accredited in-house seed lab which rigorously tests all the conditioned forage seed as well as completing imports and exports of forage products . This ensures Proven Seed ’ s Performance Promise of 10 weed seeds per 25g samples is strictly adhered to .
Each fall Nutrien Ag Solutions retails return any forage seed left over from the year to Carrot River so that it can be properly reviewed . Samples are taken of all returned seed to perform germination tests as Proven Seed quality is always top of mind . The alfalfas are re-inoculated and newly manufactured forage blends are packaged using the newly updated bagging system .
