Initially , FHBA opposed these bills and sought commitment from the bill sponsors to work on improvements to the language . The bill ’ s transformation is the culmination of a great deal of work by various groups and individuals in the FHBA and by Senators Burgess and Ingoglia .
As passed , this legislation requires all new home construction to include a minimum one-year home warranty . The one-year warranty must be transferable to subsequent property owners and must cover a material violation of the building code . Warranties may still be longer than one year and may provide coverage that exceeds material violation of the building code .
Once signed by the Governor , the effective date of the legislation is extended to July 1 , 2025 , to allow time for the industry to educate our members on this new requirement .
