2024 FHBA Advocacy Briefing | Page 2

A word from FHBA President , Garrett Anderson Dear FHBA Family ,

I am thrilled to share with you an update on FHBA ’ s achievements during the 2024 legislative session . I ’ d also like to say congratulations to each member that took the time to write or call their legislators , travel to Tallahassee , offer their expertise or participate on the Governmental Affairs Committee .
As they say , “ It takes a community to survive session ,” and as we close this chapter , it could not be truer . FHBA relied heavily upon our Governmental Affairs Committee members , Volume Builders Council , and Senior Officers for valuable insight on many policy issues this year . And while our lobbying team guided us through the political dynamics of the House and Senate , they also worked to amplify our voice through strategic alignment with other organizations .
FHBA leveraged coalition groups with whom we share free market principles , such as the Florida Chamber of Commerce , Associated Industries of Florida , and our large builders and developers . At times we even forged surprising alignments with groups like the Florida Association of Counties . And we certainly wouldn ’ t have made it through session without continued leadership from FHBA members and home builders , Senator Blaise Ingoglia and Representative Stan McClain .
To top it off , in the throes of session , our staff faced regulatory issues that needed immediate attention . Staff Counsel , along with the Executive Committee , spent the last few weeks addressing changes needed to the recently adopted Florida Building Code , and implications from the Center for Biological Diversity v . Regan case that affects 404 Permitting .
It has certainly been a whirlwind first quarter , but I think you will agree that we navigated this challenging session with success . As a reminder , this overview gives the status of legislation at the close of session . Any bill passed must first be signed by the Governor before it becomes law .
Thank you again to the entire home building community and our members for trusting this team to support your business and defend our industry against burdensome regulations . As you read through this year ’ s wrap up , please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions . FHBA Government
Affairs Director and Staff Counsel , Ashton Mears , is but an email away at amears @ fhba . com
