A top priority of the FHBA , this legislation pre-empts local governments from requiring an employer to meet or provide heat exposure requirements not otherwise required under state or federal law .
This prevents an otherwise impossible task of keeping up with a patchwork of heat exposure procedures from 67 counties and 411 municipalities around Florida .
OSHA is in the process of developing heat exposure procedures , which will provide a uniform standard .
The bill also preempts prevailing wage , thus prohibiting local governments from setting a minimum wage other than state or federal minimum wage and from influencing or dictating the wage policies of businesses in contracts or business relations with the local government .
This priority legislation was passed on the final day of the 2024 session and now awaits signature from Governor DeSantis .
