A Message from Our President and Chief Executive Officer

At the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, operating responsibly is not just a priority, but the foundation of our business. Our commitment to sustainable growth, operational excellence and community impact drives long-term fi nancial success while ensuring a better future for our passengers, employees and airport partners. For nearly 40 years, we have played a central role in shaping access and global connectivity for the National Capital Region while serving record numbers of travelers.
In 2024, the Airports Authority released its fi rst Environmental, Social and Governance Impact Report, highlighting our progress in sustainability, people and leadership during the previous year. The response was tremendous, with over 21,000 page views and engagement from readers across, 10 countries. This year, the report refl ects our achievements during 2024 and describes our goals and commitments to responsible, ethical and constructive business practices in the years ahead.
We continue to improve and expand our infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the region. Construction is underway on the new 14-gate Concourse E at Dulles International. In 2024, Dulles welcomed six new airlines and 17 new routes, helping us to better serve more than 53.5 million passengers at our two-airport system. To access our airports, 2.9 million riders used the region’ s metrorail public transit system; this includes a 3.3 percent increase in Metrorail passenger traffi c at Reagan National Airport, and more than 2 million passengers at Dulles International Airport on metrorail’ s Silver Line extension, which was built by the Airports Authority.
Sustainability remains a cornerstone of our strategy. Initiatives like the Donate, Don’ t Discard campaigncollected over 5,000 toiletry items for local charities and diverted more than a ton of solid waste from landfi lls. The success of this initiative has inspired similar programs at other airports across the nation. We have expanded our data tracking on emissions and continue to drive initiatives like the Green Concessions Program and liquid collection stations, which encourage waste reduction and recycling at our airports.
Our impact also extends to the broader community. In 2024, we raised $ 723,000 during the Washington Dulles International Airport“ Dulles Day” and Plane Pull Festival and a 5K / 10K on the Runway competition. These events benefi t Special Olympics Virginia. In addition to the money raised, our employees contributed more than 400 volunteer hours.
For the safety of our passengers and workers, a major focus of our business is security – including cybersecurity. We continually strengthen our cybersecurity in response to evolving threats, ensuring the resilience of our operations. All employees are required to participate in monthly training to recognize constantly changing cyber threats. To enhance passenger security, we extensively train our workforce to identify victims of human traffi cking in an effort to help eradicate this terrible crime, which often can involve transit through airports.
In 2024, we welcomed Terry Liercke as the new vice presidentand airport manager for Ronald Reagan National Airport, bringing 25 years of experience in operational management at Reagan National and Dulles International airports. We also are investing in the future of our workforce, as demonstrated by the 32 graduates of our Manager Development Program – a 10-month in-house initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of leadership. And to support our fi rm commitment to ethical business practices, 100 percent of our employees and board members participate in mandatory annual ethics training.
This report quantifi es the impact of our responsible business strategy and underscores our continued commitment to sustainability, innovation, ethical performance, sound business practices, and active engagement in the communities we serve. As we look to the future, we remain steadfast in our mission to enhance global connectivity and support our regional economy.
Sincerely,
John E. Potter President and Chief Executive Offi cer
