Winter delivers sparkling natural beauty amongst thousands of acres of preserved lands for snowshoeing , skiing , ice skating , and fishing .
Machias is a Wabanaki word that means “ bad little falls ,” thus the name Bad Little Falls Park . Set in town on the Machias River it is the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic while eagles and osprey soar overhead .
Travel down the peninsula to Bucks Harbor and explore the harbor and its many islands by boat from one of the many public boat access points throughout the peninsula .
