The long history of fishing in the region begins with the native Wabanaki peoples followed by the Vikings and later European settlers .

This 34-piece outdoor exhibit spans over 200 miles along the Penobscot River and DownEast coast to the Canadian border , where it meets the International Sculpture Trail . Carved from granite sourced from local quarries , these world class works of art dot the region from Bucksport to Calais .
