Each fire station is staffed by one fire captain , one fire motor operator , and three to four firefighter / paramedics . Each fire station has a fire engine and ambulance .
The new building includes administration office space , training facilities , individual bunkrooms and will serve as a backup Emergency Operations Center . Each station responds to fire and medical calls within its own district and assists the other station on structure fires or other resource-intensive incidents . Through computer aided dispatch ( CAD ) system , additional resources from Mutual Aid partners in other cities can be automatically requested based on the type of call and the availability of units .
The department responds to more than 1,500 fire-related incidents ( 100 to 200 actual fires ) and more than 5,700 ambulance calls each year .
The department has a fire prevention division which includes a public education committee . Public education opportunities are offered throughout the year to preschool , kindergarten , second and fourth grade students - as well as during events throughout the year such as the Burnsville Festival & Fire Muster and annual Fire Department Open House .
