Coach Trevor Shaver and the Hoxie Mustangs are hoping a large group of newcomers will turn things around on the diamond . Kayden Glenn , Logan Light , and Mack Slaughter all return to lead the young Mustang lineup . Glenn is a shortstop and catcher that shows great leadership and is a good hitter . Glenn will also lead the pitching rotation having good control on his fastball . Light has a strong arm and good reaction at third base and will pitch with good off speed pitches , while Slaughter will also fill a spot on the infield . Seventeen new faces should make a big impact on the field for Hoxie . PJ Forehand could catch or play the infield with Mattox Glenn at second and Hayden McIntire at first . Outfielders could include Robert Martinez and Kaden Jones . With such a young group , limiting errors and mistakes will be key for the Mustangs , but Coach Shaver says this group is very coachable and wants to get better . The early part of the season could bring some growing pains for a young Hoxie team , but look for them to improve as the season goes .
Coach Baylee Haskins says the goal for her Hoxie Lady Mustangs is to “ have fun and see what happens .” With some key pieces returning and some newer faces to help , the Lady Mustangs hope to have a lot of fun this season . Seniors Bailey Prater , Hannah Riggs , and Saydee Pratt are back to lead Hoxie this season . Prater is a catcher and one of the strongest hitters on the team . She is fast on the base paths and behind the plate and is a great leader on the field . Riggs has a good glove and high softball IQ at second base , while Pratt can play shortstop or first base and even pitched some last season , bringing a different look from the left side . Junior Mia Orrick is back in the circle for the Lady Mustangs after not being able to pitch the second half of the season due to an elbow injury . Orrick can hit the low 50s with a fastball and has a great curveball . She is also a switch hitter and really fast on the bases . Sophomores Gracie Felton , Patricia Russell , and Dream Davis all return to the lineup . Felton is a third baseman with a great glove and arm at the hot corner . She also will step in and pitch when needed . Russell is a first baseman and outfielder with the ability to learn new positions very quickly . She has a good bat and encourages everyone on the field . Davis is an outfielder with great speed that can track down anything hit her way . Freshmen Sydney Noblin and Sophia Russell are looking to step in and make an impact . Both are utility players that can play in the infield or outfield with good bats . Some upperclassmen that have come out this year are seniors Blaze Lorren and Karsyn Milligan . Lorren is fast , can track down a lot in the outfield , and hit from both sides of the plate , and Milligan has put a lot of work in to improve her hitting . Fellow senior Shaeann Prince , junior Alexis Parker , and sophomore Lindsey Wells are all looking to help in any way they can . Coach Haskins is looking forward to a productive season . “ Our strengths will be our hitting , making plays and catches that some wouldn ' t think could be made ,” she said . “ Our area of concern is trusting one another . We have several that have never played together before , so I think it ' s going to be hard for some to trust others to do their job .” The Hoxie Lady Mustangs should show improvement this year in the tough 3A-2 Conference and battle for one of the last regional spots .
