Q . There are so many things you have done : Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen , GCAPP with Jane Fonda here in Atlanta , a Netflix movie , Love Hard , tons of brand sponsorships , features in Hollywood Reporter and Variety , and your funny as hell podcast Absolutely Not . Tell us five things you ’ d like to happen next .
A . A few things I would like to happen next – my dream goal would be to host SNL . But to do that , I would have to start in a hit TV show or movie ! So if I get to host SNL , then all the other dreams of my life will have already happened . Then I would be able to move to the Turks and Caicos . I would love to have my own clothing line that supports women with broad shoulders and thin ankles . I would love to make more comedy specials . I also have to go for the EGOT . Emmy , Grammy , Oscar , Tony- why not do it all !
Q . Women are completely obsessed with you ( the Southern women are cheering loud !) and I think the fact that you are so raw , open and self-deprecating about the female experience resonates in a big way . How does that play out when you ’ re on the road and with the fans ? Does it influence your material ?
A . I obviously have a large southern following , but man , the girls in Chicago , the girls in Portland Oregon . They teach me so much . I love meeting everybody all over the world . I just spent a month in Australia meeting those down under hussies and that was such a cool experience . I get material from just traveling around the world . We all live different lives , but at the core we all care about the same things and that ’ s what brings us all together .
Q . What ’ s the worst thing that ever happened on stage ? I heard Terry Gross ask Joan Rivers this question years ago and I winced at her answer ( a guy ran up to the stage and vomited on her ).
A . There has been a learning curve with some of the audience members . I like to remind them to eat a chicken quesadilla before they come and drink a bottle of white wine . At the shows we definitely have had people be overserved and nothing is more disappointing to me than somebody who has to leave a show because they don ’ t even know what state they ’ re in . I always say have a snack if you want to drink . I put on a great show for you , so I want you to remember it .
Q . Your tours have grown substantially from being at the Variety Playhouse and then at the iconic Fox Theater here locally . But you have traveled across the nation , and globally now with your self-produced show including stints at Radio City . It has to feel incredibly fulfilling to have done that on your own terms . What does a normal day not touring / working look like for you ?
A . It feels like I haven ’ t had a full day off in probably four years so this is a loaded answer ! I like to treat myself to a 90 minute deep tissue . If I really don ’ t have to see anybody I will stay in my house in Johns Creek . I will go to the spa at the country club . I ’ ll order an obscene amount of Chick-fil-A to be delivered to the house and I ’ ll make a dirty martini by five . I won ’ t put on a bra or underwear the whole damn day !
