Pedestrian Safety Takes a Step Forward
In an effort to promote pedestrian safety , the Town began a program this past year to improve crosswalks at 12 high-traffic areas in Town . In August , the Town celebrated the opening of two these crosswalks just in time for the start of school , one on Dakota Drive near Lighthouse Elementary and the other on Loxahatchee Drive near Jupiter Elementary .
These two crosswalks were selected and designed to make it safer for children to walk to school . The new crosswalks feature buttonactivated lights to alert drivers and provide for an elevated walking area that is clearly marked , providing for better visibility . The Town collaborated closely with the principals at both schools to select the best locations for the crosswalks .
In early 2025 , crosswalk improvements are also scheduled to be completed at :
• University Boulevard and Osceola Woods .
• South Old Dixie Highway near Jupiter Medical Center .
• South Loxahatchee Drive south of 6th Street .
• Toney Penna Drive near Jupiter Village Swimming Pool .
• Main Street at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium .
• Maplewood Drive at Pine Tree Trail .
• Greenway Drive at Abacoa Community Park .
• South Loxahatchee Drive at Officer Bruce St . Laurent Park .
• Long Shore Drive and Central Boulevard .
• Palmfield Way between Via Rosina and Coco Lane .
