Supporting Local Tour Directors: Oliver Oliquiano, PGA
The Foundation’ s Tournaments division conducts more tournaments than any organization in the world. That amazing feat can only be done if we identify, train, and work closely with the best tournament directors in any given area. We are fortunate to have Oliver Oliquiano.
Oliver has been a Local Tour Director for U. S. Kids Golf for over 12 years. He’ s one of the most awarded golf professionals in all of Hawaii, cited by numerous organizations for his dedication to the game and Hawaii’ s youth.
“ I still love being a part of the golf journey for these kids,” Oliver explains.“ And it’ s not even just being a part of the journey, it’ s being a part of that critical first step. This is where it starts. If we provide a great atmosphere, a high-quality level of service and attention to detail, and a culture that celebrates families and togetherness, then we have set them up for a lifetime of memories.”
Oliquiano estimates he has conducted tournaments for thousands of kids. But it’ s not numbers that motivate him, it’ s relationships. The fact that so many of his former players still come back to his events to visit, volunteer, or even join his staff, is a testament to the bonds created through his Local Tour.
“ I love that we focus on families and on building friendships and relationships. Many junior golf events don’ t allow parents on the course to even watch. We bring them inside to take part. That’ s really special.”
Oliquiano doesn’ t just say it; he lives it. As a father of a young player, he appreciates the challenges and victories that families have as they bond together while competing. He’ s even able to caddie for his daughter on occasion.“ I’ m very cognizant of the dynamics of a parent-caddie relationship and not just my own, but how my tour can serve and improve that dynamic. And I want to see the Tour from a parent’ s perspective— the good and the bad.”
Because of Local Tour Directors like Oliver, there’ s a whole lot of good taking place in Hawaii!
