Some will suggest that the context becomes a proof text for the directive closing the previous paragraph :
‏ִבּיצִ‏ יאַ‏ ת י
And those who add and spend extra time in telling the story of the exodus from Egypt , behold they are surely praiseworthy .
Yes and … why not provide these details too ? Their additions must be worthy of learning if not reciting as well !
I wish to suggest that there is an additional charge that informs this approach , that of “ in each generation …” We must craft our own stories pertinent to our particular circumstances in our generation . Stories and callings for our time . How do the challenges as well as the opportunities and the anguish of our reality invite the timely yet timeless stories we must tell ? This year the onus is all the more acute .
I believe there is more , in the silence , we hear the angst . How is it possible to elaborate on experiences that are so traumatic ? Might we suggest that this was the content if not the dilemma that kept them up all night ; What can we say ? What can we teach ? What can we learn ? It is the audacity and bravery to enter that “ Pardes ”, that conundrum , that is being praised if not encouraged . Our ability to heal arises out of
