STEAM English 11 : DIY Projects [ AHS only ] Intended Audience : Grade 11 Credit : 1 Trimester = 0.5 credits Major Outcomes :
• Interrogate issues through self-directed investigation to form an understanding of how to present innovative solutions .
• Build out verbal , written , media , and technological literacy skills to critically consider and engage in different methods that students can obtain and use information in the digital age .
• Grow communication skills to creatively and reflectively make and deliver students ’ own ‘ how to ’ informational artifacts , such as info-graphics , videos , instructional manuals , blogs , etc .
Projects , Activities , etc .: Design Investigation & Technical Writing - LEGO project , Book Club Issues Website , Group Innovations Project , info-graphics , videos , instructional manuals , blogs , etc . Instructional Focus : Application of practical literacy skills in real-world situations and connection of literature to real-world experiences .
STEAM English 12 : Dynamic Storytelling [ AHS only ] Intended Audience : Grade 12 Credit : 1 Trimester = 0.5 credits Major Outcomes :
• Challenge students to critically think about the various ways we tell stories ; from personal to professional , from print to performance .
• Consider different methods of delivery and dive into audience psychology and marketing tactics of storytelling . How do you most effectively tell the story to get across your target message ?
• Explore different forms of creative and dynamic storytelling used in our society to share information and personal stories .
• Learn to develop and tell your own stories through a number of different dynamic communication mediums . Examples include personal websites , video documentaries , podcasts , PSA ’ s , etc . Projects , Activities , etc .: Small stories , expanding stories , capstone stories , personal websites , video documentaries , podcasts , PSA ’ s etc . Honors Design & Development for STEAM [ AHS only ] Prerequisite / Selection Process : Successful completion of STEAM core ( passed all required STEAM classes ) or teacher approval Intended Audience : Grade 11 , 12 Credit : Three trimesters = 1.5 credits Major Outcomes :
• Teams of students work together guided by a teacher and community mentor using the Design Thinking Process to research , design and construct an innovative solution to a problem .
• Students will enhance design and manufacturing skills to help in the development of their creative / innovative project
• Teams will participate in an end of course presentation event at AHS
Projects , Activities , etc : Use Design Thinking ® to aid in problem solving ; write and develop a final presentation using technology presentation skills
STEAM Digital Communication and Design [ AHS only ] Prerequisite / Selection Process : Priority given to students pursuing STEAM Certification . Intended Audience : Grade 9 and 10 Students at Anoka High School Credit : One trimester = 0.5 credit Major Outcomes :
• Develop professional communication skills using relevant industry software .
• Gain a foundational understanding of how to use coding to advance student project potential .
• Use professional applications to design an evolving digital portfolio and personal marketing materials .

STEAM Foundations [ AHS only ] Prerequisite / Selection Process : Priority given to students pursuing STEAM Certification . Intended Audience : Grades 9 and 10 STEAM students at Anoka High School Credit : One trimester = . 5 credit Major Outcomes :
• Recognize and demonstrate the principles of design and elements of art as they are applied to visual and culinary arts through a variety of projects .
• Identify key characteristics of engineering and architectural drawings
• Edit / draw three dimensional objects
using CAD software to produce a finished product on a laser , router or 3-D printer .
• Brainstorm , originate and demonstrate understanding of the concepts underlying design using various studio-based media
• Transfer initial design ideas / concepts to the computer for transforming and finalizing a design using computer software .
• Explore various STEAM related careers through speakers , interviews , and field trips .
• Gain an awareness of current problems in various areas of medical practice and use the Design Thinking process to brainstorm , research , design and present solutions .

• Develop media , technology , and literacy skills by engaging in problem solving and the project process .
STEAM Mechanical Design Lab ( AHS Only ) Priority given to students pursuing STEAM Certification . Intended Audience : Grades 10 & 11 Credit : One Trimester = 0.5 Major Outcomes :

• Design , create , and program by leveraging cutting-edge physical technology
