STEP INTO THE PAST The cemetery adjacent to the Old First Church in Old Bennington never gets old . Stroll ( or drive ) up Monument Ave past historic homes and take in the Bennington Battle Monument ( an elevator will take you up inside in season ).
BYWAYS AND BRIDGES Did you now that Vermont has more covered bridges per square mile than any state in the Union ? You ’ ll see why if you take a quick drive from the Monument to North Bennington via Silk Road and Murphy Road : you ’ ll rumble through three of these iconic bridges . You may want to stop for a picture at the last of them ( the Henry Bridge ), river fishermen sometimes included .
WHO ’ S HUNGRY ? Back in the car , pass through the charming village of North Bennington and take Route 67 east to Historic Route 7A in Shaftsbury .
