2023 STANSW Young Scientist Awards Presentation Ceremony
Message from the STANSW President
Science , as we know it , is a construct of the western world . There are many ways of knowing and in Australia , the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples recognise the Science of the world they live in and have developed a way of communicating that knowledge to their future generations , just as we do . I would like to acknowledge the original custodians of this land and wish that their wisdom and knowledge about the Country that we share is recognised so a better understanding of the land is developed .
Science is the study of how and why everything in our world works . It helps us make improvements to our standards of living , mitigate disasters , help with managing human disease and so many other areas of human endeavour . We also sit at the beginning of the era of Artificial Intelligence and wonder in anticipation of what the future brings .
We are in good hands . Today , our future generation of scientists sit here in front of us . I congratulate all of the teachers who helped NSW students learn and love science with the passion that is needed for our sustainable future . Over 816 students conducted science research , including over 441 girls . Every participant is to be congratulated and the students here tonight are exceptionally talented scientists .
We were very excited to be part of the national ASTA I 3 awards program last year and will be submitting our best projects this year .
