Dressing for the weather can be difficult when the temperature is changing . Karmichael created and tested a reversible shirt with two layers of fabric . Using temperature sensors , he showed that a shirt that was black on the outside and white inside was the hottest , while white on both sides was the coolest .

At the Australian Open , high-ranking tennis players complained about the durability of the tennis balls that were used . Elisabeth tested the effect of wear on the distance that different brands of tennis balls travel . Her results were consistent with the complaints of the players , with that brand faring the worst .
