Good ventilation plays a role in decreasing the spread of airborne disease . Lisa tested four methods of ventilation and a control with no ventilation . Using a CO 2 monitor , Lisa found that all methods of ventilation kept CO 2 levels lower compared to the control . The box fan blowing air into the room was most effective .

Microplastics are tiny fragments of plastic that can break off from any plastic item . Kitty set out to test whether different types of scrubbing sponge deposited microplastics on the dishes . She used Nile Red dye and a fluorescence microscope to identify microplastics . The Scotch-Brite Non Scratch sponge released the most microplastics , but all released at least some .

Stain removal is a perennial household problem . Celia was interested in testing whether the pH of household products was linked to their effectiveness in removing stains from fabric . Her tests showed that the more alkaline the substance the more effective it was at removing stains , with bleach at pH 13 the most effective and lemon juice at pH 2 the least effective .
