GABRIEL
( taken aback )
Leila ! It ’ s so … wow ! You ’ re home ! How are you doing ?
Good !
Did you sleep well ?
LEILA
GABRIEL
LEILA Well , we were all bundled up in a small cabin together , but all the students were nice . I ' m excited to spend the next … years with them ! Where ’ s mom ?
GABRIEL She ’ s … um . R-Reading . She ’ s got a bunch of reports to go through before tomorrow . So how come you ’ re back here already ? Did you forget anything ? Isn ’ t the train leaving soon ?
LEILA Well there were two departure times ; regular and late .
GABRIEL Leila ! What did we tell you about first impressions ?
LEILA They said it was fine , the first departure was going to be filled to the brim anyways .
GABRIEL
Where are all the other late departure kids ?
LEILA Well , I dunno , they ’ re all going to be late for a reason , not just hanging out at the train station … I have my reason . ( beat ) I read your letter and … ( smiling in the memory ) well … ( back to what she was going to say ) I don ’ t think you gave me the book ( chuckling ).
