Practice environment council
Following a successful launch of the QPC and the commencement of monthly council meetings both at the system level and with the practice area councils , the next council structure was ready to launch in August 2023 . This second new council structure focuses on practice environment , with the goal of strengthening and improving healthy and safe work settings in support of best team member outcomes across Children ’ s Colorado . With executive sponsorship and leadership by Kathie Seerup , MSHA , BSN , RN , NE-BC , Senior Vice President , Chief Nursing and Operations Officer , southern region , the new system-level practice environment council ( PEC ) and several associated committees connected patient care services team members across all Children ’ s Colorado campuses with a focus on datadriven priorities , evidence-based interventions and initiatives , and innovation with intentional methods and dissemination .
The system-level PEC promotes and facilitates an environment that supports and engages team members to thrive in their professional practice when caring for patients and families . Some topics include ethics , recognition , resiliency and well-being , retention , workforce planning and staffing , and workplace safety . The focused committees reporting through PEC are comprised of some existing committees with established members , as well as new committees for which new members and co-chairs were recruited , including a retention committee , resiliency and well-being committee , ambulatory staffing advisory committee and perioperative staffing advisory committee .
Expanding the reach and depth of communication
Ongoing communication and transparency are key components of the evolution of the professional governance structure . Beginning in October 2023 , in conjunction with Pediatric Nurses ’ Week celebrations , the division launched two new communication channels born from requests to better fit the needs of team members in diverse roles across Patient Care Services . This included a first-ever division-specific newsletter , called Care Connection , along with a redesigned Patient Care Services ( PCS ) portal on the MyChildrensColorado intranet . The Care Connection and PCS Portal , both mobile-friendly , are designed to share relevant and timely information and celebrate achievements . Each monthly issue of the Care Connection includes a standing section for professional governance which may promote a call for membership in a council or committee , share how team members can identify their representative on a professional governance council or provide an update on current council priorities and areas of focus . The Care Connection newsletter has also featured interviews with council co-chairs , who share their vision and strategic plans and recognize the successes and dedication of those who serve in the professional governance structure .
The coming year holds promise for continued evolution through the addition of further professional governance councils and expansion of the voice and involvement of direct care team members .
