The Journey from Shared to Professional Governance Evolves

The division of Patient Care Services launched a new professional governance structure in March 2023 . This work built upon efforts that began in 2019 , and leaders returned to it with renewed focus and intention after an unavoidable pandemic-related pause . The feedback of Children ’ s Colorado team members informed this priority and reinforced the value of voice and ownership of decision-making in professional practice . This evolution of the governance structure will ensure those values can thrive across Children ’ s Colorado ’ s system of care , beginning in 2023 and extending into the future .
Quality practice council
With executive sponsorship and support from Chief Nursing Executive Pat Givens , DHA , EdM , RN , NEA-BC , Senior Vice President , the initial phase focused on clinical practice , reflecting Children ’ s Colorado ’ s shared mission of excellence in patient outcomes . An evolved quality practice council ( QPC ) was launched to serve as a forum for ownership and voice of clinical practice across patient care services in support of the best patient outcomes . The QPC ensures that direct care team members have a voice in which to identify , discuss , respond to , influence and impact elements of quality in clinical practice . A call for co-chairs and members was open to the entire division , and after a robust response , direct care team members and leaders were matched to the following systems-level practice area councils : acute care practice council , advanced practice council , ambulatory practice council , behavioral health practice council , critical care practice council , emergency and urgent care practice council , perioperative practice council and respiratory care practice council .
