The VQI is governed by the Society for Vascular Surgeons ( SVS ) Patient Safety Organization ( PSO ), which provides oversight of data sharing arrangements , key outcome and quality measure analyses , and dissemination of information to participating providers . Published in April 2023 , through the participation of the VQI database , Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas received the 2022 VQI Participation Award * in the form of three stars , the highest rating available . In 2022 , 795 centers were eligible and Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital - Dallas is one of the 10 % of participating centers to achieve this recognition . This is the seventh consecutive three-star recognition granted .

Aortic procedures
Through the Aortic Center multidisciplinary approach , vascular surgeons and cardiothoracic surgeons on the medical staff collaborate on treatment options provided to patients with aortic disease . Vascular surgeons in Dallas are also known for their clinical expertise in abdominal aortic aneuryms as noted by US News & World Report with a High Performing rating in 2022-23 . Whether it is a complex aortic arch dissection or aortic aneurysm , the Aortic Center ’ s team in Dallas will assist with urgent or emergent cases . See page 14 for more on Aortic Center in Dallas .

Carotid endarterectomy
At Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas , vascular surgeons on the hospital ’ s medical staff diagnose and treat patients who may need surgical intervention for atherosclerotic plaque buildup in the carotid arteries . The main treatment for plaque buildup is carotid endarterectomy ( CEA ). Patients unable to undergo CEA for various medical reasons may benefit from another procedure , carotid angioplasty and stenting , to restore blood flow and cover the obstructing plaque .
Vascular surgeons on the medical staff at the hospital have been involved in years of research and clinical studies related to carotid stenting devices and techniques .
