Aortic Center
The Aortic Center at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of cardiothoracic surgeons and vascular surgeons on the Baylor Dallas hospital ’ s medical staff as well as advanced practice providers and nurses . The team collaborates with one another , as well as patients ’ referring physicians to treat complex conditions with technically demanding minimally invasive and open surgical procedures .
Some critical conditions such as aortic dissection or ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm requires emergent care . Other cases coordinated through the Aortic Center may be appropriate for elective timing for intervention . Upon referral to the Aortic Center , patients benefit from :
• Multidisciplinary case review each Monday• Comprehensive , on-site imaging services using advanced equipment and experienced technologists including 3D volume-rendered CT and stat echocardiography• Compassionate and expert care from a team specially trained in the treatment of aortic disease• Multiple options for high-risk cardiovascular patients• Access to clinical research trials for qualified candidates |

The team also participates in the International Registry of Acute Aortic Dissections ( IRAD ). IRAD is a consortium of research centers that are evaluating the current management and outcomes of acute aortic dissection .

The Dallas campus team was selected by the National Institutes of Health as a site for IMPROVE-AD , a randomized multi-center evaluation of endovascular treatment of Type B aortic dissection . Principal investigator : John F . Eidt , MD .
