Q & A with Earle Bulldog Joseph McVay . By : Ryan Fletcher
. You have one last season as an Earle Bulldog . How does it feel knowing everything you do will be your last as a senior ? Knowing that this is my last season makes me feel that I have to work ten times harder than last season and live up to the hype that I ’ ve consumed .
. You enter the season as one of the top wide receivers in the state ? What individual goals have you set for yourself this season ? How does it feel to play knowing you are likely the best on the field while also being number one on the opposing teams scouting report ? I look forward into playing with more confidence this season . I want to leave off my last year with one of the best performances in high school history .
. Talk about the recruiting process and how you landed at Vanderbilt ? Going through the recruiting process was a lot to take in as a kid . It all hit so fast at one time . It got frustrating at times but , that ’ s just part of it . I have been recruited by some of the best teams in college football , but Vanderbilt is who stood out the most ! They did an outstanding job of recruiting me .
. Obviously , you guys have your sights set on playing in Little Rock for a state title . What would it be like to end your career under the lights at War Memorial Stadium ? This is my last year of high school football . It would mean the world to me to end it at War Memorial Stadium under those big bright lights winning the championship . It would make my career so much more successful .
. Who are some other teammates you expect a big season out of and why ? I except a lot from running back Brian Powell and defensive back Karon Alston . I expect highly of them because they were two of our best returning juniors from last year team and they saw how we started off the season rough and came together as a team to make a run .
. Talk about the importance of having a solid relationship with your quarterback and being on the same page . What is your relationship like to him ? Having a good relationship is key in high school football . It builds trust and chemistry with each other to the point where it makes it easier for us on the field . I have a great bond my with my QB1 Taron Hurst . He ' s like my brother . I ' ll stick beside him through whatever !
. Not too long ago , Earle had Gerry Bohanon graduate as a Bulldog then ended up playing D1 football as a quarterback at Baylor and he ’ s now with South Florida . Do you know Gerry and how does it feel to be another legit talent to come out of Earle ? I ’ ve been watching Gerry since I was playing pee wee football . I loved watching Gerry play growing up . He ' s an inspiration to our town . He set the tone for the rest of us ! It feels great being able to go down that same path and be able to play college football at the next level which is one of the highest levels coming from a small town that I come from . That ’ s a big accomplishment .
. What do you want Earle Fans to remember you for ? I want the people of Earle , Arkansas to remember Joseph McVay as one of the best wide receivers to come through Earle . I want them to not only remember my actions on the field but on the court , on the track , and most importantly in the classroom ! I Love the city of Earle , and I can ’ t get this big of an opportunity and let them down . I ’ m about to make the city of Earle proud !
