The Rector Cougars made it to the 8-Man Sanctioned State Championship in War Memorial last year , falling to Izard County in a thrilling game . The runner-up finish capped off a memorable 8-3 season in Clay County . Coach Dave Hendrix returns several key leaders to try to make another run to Little Rock . Gunner Land and Devon Pierce will also see some touches as a running back in the Thunderbird attack . Triley Jones will help block at tight end , while slipping out as a threat in what Coach Goulart sees as a multi formation offense . On defense , Jones leads Cross County at defensive end with a talented and deep corps at linebacker . Wilson , Land , and Pierce head that group up with some new faces rounding out at the defense . Two-year starter Canon McGee returns to handle the kicking duties and Danny Beale , Roderick Williams , and Cardarian Washington will make plays for the T-Birds all over the field . Coach Goulart has high expectations for his guys even in what he sees as the best 2A conference in the state . Even with a
