Williams brings the “ Juice ” for the Lady Raiders By : Brad Davis
Nettleton senior McKenzie “ Juice ” Williams has been one of the focal points for the Lady Raiders over the last couple of years . Williams earned all-state and all-conference honors last season leading Nettleton with 10 points and eight rebounds per game . She also was named to the Lyon College All- Tournament team , the All- NEA Tournament team , and the Best Under the Sun team . The Lady Raiders finished fourth in a brutal 5A East and fell in the first round of the state tournament to eventual champion Greenwood . She has a lot of interest from coaches at the next level including offers to play at Lyon College and Coahoma Community College .
Williams is a perfect combination of strength and touch on the inside . First year head coach Kevin Frisbee broke down why she is so difficult to guard . “ As a player , she does such a great job of constantly working in the post ,” he said . “ She has excellent hands and solid footwork , and knows how to use her size to gain an advantage . One thing that makes her tough to defend is her willingness to constantly regain position inside . She finishes well , is a solid free throw shooter , and has really worked on extending her range in the offseason .”
While she is a force on the inside on both ends of the floor , it is her attitude and energy she brings to the team that may be her most valuable attribute . Coach Frisbee agrees , “ Juice is one of the most consistent players I ’ ve ever coached . She ’ s the same day in and day out , and that ’ s something you really love to have in one of your best players .”
Going into her senior year , Williams wants to expand on that leadership role and do the things necessary to help her team reach Hot Springs . “ I want to win state with this group of girls ,” she said . “ We really have all the pieces to do so . We have so many memories with each other since third grade . That would just end it perfectly .”
