The Harrisburg Lady Hornets are looking to pump up in the 3A-3 conference . After a season record of 6-18 ( 1-11 ) they are looking to step up . Coach Tyler Riddle is looking for returning starters to step up and carry the load . Liz Green ( junior guard ) is the playmaker for the Lady Hornets after ending the season all-conference with the ability to put stats up ( 13ppg 6.3rpg 3.4 spg ). Green has the ability to adapt to the game and this season she will lead the Hornets as the point guard . Green played every game Coach Riddle says “ Green ' s versatility is her secret weapon ; she ' s a force on any part of the court , leaving an indelible mark on every play . Last season , she led in scoring , assists , and steals , while claiming the second spot in rebounds . Not to forget her monumental 32-point performance against Gosnell in the district tournament .” Hannah Mross ( junior guard ) brings passion and grit to her team . Mross ended her sophomore season with ( 8ppg 6rpg ) with a basketball vision that can ’ t be explained . But more than the scoring , Mross brings grit that is unmatched . Some players just give it all no matter the circumstances and that is Mross . “ Her true prowess lies in her heartbeat status within the Lady Hornets . An energy-infused player , she ' s always the first to dive for a loose ball , igniting the team with her intensity and fire .” Carly Casebier ( senior center ) is the defense fortress of this team . Casabier is 6-foot-tall and ended last season with 11 double-doubles . Casabier has the ability to get every board after ending a game with 18 rebounds . Riddle says that opponents think twice before testing the waters . Emma Massengill ( junior forward ) is the embodiment of versatility and athleticism on the court . Her dynamic playstyle seamlessly adapts across multiple positions , reflecting her tireless work ethic . With an average of ( 5 ppg and 4 ppg .) Massengill ' s impact is immeasurable . Her high energy and relentless pursuit of improvement set her apart as one of the team ' s most dedicated players , always seeking ways to elevate her game . Along with these four , Riddle will have four more ready to step up . Cassie Carlson ( sophomore forward ) was the leading scorer for her junior high team but that does not match up to her athletic ability . Coach Riddle says Carlson could draw attention in this 3A-3 conference . Ragan Fahr ( sophomore forward ) is going to add toughness to the court every night . Fahr has a relentless work ethic and does not mind to go head to head with any opponent . Sofie Mooney ( freshman guard ) will bring a new level of strategic play for the Lady Hornets . Mooney ’ s ability to see the court and make precise passes will elevate her team ’ s game . Coach Riddle says “ Our strength is in unity and depth . Our depth , once a stumbling block , is now our biggest asset . This season , we ' ll control the pace , pushing opponents to their limits . I expect all players on the varsity team to play a crucial role . From growth to grit last season ' s growth , with so many sophomores stepping up , toughened us up . We ' re still learning in some positions , but we ' re determined to score and anchor our game in rock-solid defense .”
The Harrisburg Hornets were much improved last year . While they finished 12-15 , they were far better than in prior seasons . Coach John Paul Geniesse hopes to carry the momentum into the 2023-2024 season . That will likely be a tall task since he does not return a single starter from last season . The Hornets lose a multitude of players in Michael Deckelman , Brylan Honeycutt , Will Cronin , Grant Henry , Jason Thomas , Corbin Grayson , and Caiden Greer . Coach Geniesse will look to turn the page and rebuild with the likes of some new blood . He has five players that he will look to rebuild around . JP Rowton and Axel Heeb are two senior guards that he will expect big things from . Coach Geniesse likes Rowton ’ s leadership . He ’ s a physical player that can shoot the trey and possesses a high IQ for the game . Heeb is very coachable . He can find multiple ways to score showing good range . Harrisburg has a trio of juniors that will log minutes for the Hornets . Easton Gray is a forward that ’ s tough and physical and he can score inside . He ’ s also capable of stepping outside and draining the three ball . Coach Geniesse will use him on defense to guard multiple positions . Max Tracy is another post player . He is a solid defender , with a great work ethic , slashes well and has a high motor . Will Graves is the third junior , and he will play a guard spot . He can handle the ball well , takes care of the basketball , able to hit the three-point shot , and has good toughness . “ We are really excited for the upcoming season ,” said Coach Geniesse . “ We graduated seven seniors who played a lot of minutes last year . Our team depth will be really good , we will be inexperienced in game minutes but our returning players gained valuable time last season preparing for their chance this year . We pride ourselves on defending the basketball and look to improve on the 50 points per game that we allowed last season . We have some good athleticism and some kids that can shoot the ball from the three-point line . Our success this season will be based upon our toughness and connectivity that we display every day . We are going to be a much better team as the season progresses , and I am excited for our ball players to compete against some really good talent .”
