Q and A with Marmaduke ’ s Brooks Vangilder By : Brad Davis Marmaduke ’ s Brooks Vangilder has had an impressive high school golf career , especially when you consider he has only been playing for about three years . Vangilder is a three-time All-State golfer qualifying for the state overall tournament each of the last two years . After finishing second in the state his junior year , Vangilder tied with a low round of 71 in this year ’ s 2A State Golf tournament at The Course at Eagle Mountain before falling in a playoff . The senior Greyhound answered some questions for NEA Sports to provide a little more insight on his tremendous high school career .
NEA Sports : What age did you start playing golf ? BV : I started playing golf a couple of months before I turned 15 . Two months later I played in my first golf match ever at Fox Hills and I won by seven shots .
NEA Sports : Who got you started in the game ? BV : My grandpa always wanted me to play , but I had only swung a club maybe three or four times in my life before May 2020 , when I took my first lesson . I decided to give it a try one day , and I have gone back almost every day since .
