. Coach Fraizer and his Lady Indians are looking to continue the improvement of their program . After ending the season 23-10 the Lady Indians have no fear of trying to get that 1A-3 title . The Lady Indians will return four starters . One returning starter is junior guard Zyonna Anderson . Coach Fraizer says . “ Quick and shifty ball handler that gives defenders trouble . " Z " is an excellent passer that does a great job setting her teammates up for shots .” There is no denying this statement after having a great season last year . ( 13 ppg , 8apg , & 3spg .) Tink Brown ( sophomore guard ) is what you would call a “ true scorer ” Brown has the ability to put points on the board in bunches . In her freshman season she put up ( 16 ppg , 7 rpg , 4 apg .) Journi Versie ( junior forward ) gives her team exactly what is needed down low . ( 9 ppg 10 rpg .) Kimyhe Jones ( junior guard ) has the ability to shut any defender down . Frazier states that Jones is a player that does many things that doesn ’ t pop up on the stats sheet . Jones is vital to the success of this team ( 6 ppg 4apg .) Along with these four , the Lady Indians will have Lakrissa Dupree ( freshman guard / forward ) who will give the Indians nice stick backs on the offensive ends . Alesia Rand ( junior forward ) can get big on the inside or step out and drain a long-range shot . Alyssa McGuire ( freshman guard ) is a shooter who can also pass the ball . Mcguire works with Jones in doing things that may not show up in the scorebook . Toni Hister ( junior guard / forward ) has the ability to clean up the boards but also be a strong offensive rebounder . “ These kids have barely scraped the surface from what they accomplished last year ,” stated Coach Frazier . “ The sky ' s the limit with this group of kids .” Frazier has a young group who accomplished many things last year , but still has the ability to do more . Keys to success for this team will be to work hard , play smart , and just win the game . Frazier is excited about the team ' s defense and says our defense is tough . We look to get in your face and force turnovers . Great defense leads to even easier offense . The Lady Indians plan to be quick and athletic which will help them keep the game at a fast pace . Frazier says there could be some worry about the youth of the team but has no doubt that they will fight their hardest every night . The Lady Indians look to the state tournament .
The Marked Tree Indians enjoyed another stellar season under head coach Barbara Wilburn finishing 33-4 earning conference , district , and regional championships before falling in the 1A state championship game in a thriller . Expectations are the same they every year in Marked Tree , which means return to Hot Springs and finish the job . Marked Tree lost a few key pieces from last year , but return five players with starting experience . Senior Cameron Marshall returns as a three-year starter to lead the Indians . Marshall is a good outside shooter and a solid defender with good speed . Junior Kenyon Carter leads a talented class at the guard spot . Carter is a floor leader who can shoot the three and get to the basket and finish . Jonah Walker provides a post presence for Marked Tree . The junior center is very strong with great speed for a big guy and is a great rebounder . Landon Lewis and LaDarrius Brown also return to the starting lineup . Lewis is a good defender and rebounder , while Brown is a good outside shooter and rebounder . Depth will not be an issue as Isaiah Malone and Dewon Smith will make big impacts on the floor . Malone is a good defender whose offense has improved . Smith transferred in and possesses a high basketball IQ . The junior is quick , can get to the rim , and shoot the three . Coach Wilburn believes this team has a chance to repeat the success of last season . “ This could be a really good team ,” she said . “ They have set some pretty high goals , and we have the tools to accomplish those goals . As always , we have got to be great on defense !” Marked Tree should be atop the 1A-3 conference once again with a strong chance to make it back to the state finals . This time , Coach Wilburn and company have some unfinished business to attend to in Hot Springs .
