Q & A with Riverside Lady Rebel Gracie Washington By : Ryan Fletcher
. You won the Sean Tillery MVP award last year . What was that feeling like ? Were you surprised ? Winning the Sean Tillery award was a fun experience that I am so grateful for . Not many people get that honor , and I am glad I got the opportunity to . I was surprised at getting the award . But not because I didn ’ t think I was good enough for it , but because they could pick only one girl to get it . There are so many talented girls in my conference . For me to be the one they picked was a huge blessing .
. What has been your favorite memory as a Lady Rebel ? My favorite memory as a Rebel isn ’ t just one thing in particular . It ’ s all the jokes and talks that go on after long days at practice .
. What has it been like playing for Coach Timms ? Playing for Coach Timms is an experience I am grateful for . He always pushed me to be better not only on the court but off of the court as well .
. You guys had such an impressive run last year and won just about everything there was to win except state . How important is it for you all to make it to Hot Springs and win a title ? Making the run we did last year and coming up short of a state title makes you want it more than anything . Not just going to Hot Springs but winning it is an accomplishment that we all work hard for . We all spent countless hours in the gym and weight room to make sure we don ’ t fall short again .
. Who has been your favorite teammate to play with and why ? My favorite player to play with has been Amber ( Courtney ) or Ali ( Towles ). I ’ ve play with them since we were in 4th grade . I know at the end of the day they will hold me accountable and make sure I ’ m working just as hard as everyone else .
. What team do you love to beat and can ’ t stand to lose to ? Why ? The team I like beating the most is BIC . Since our towns are so close and both teams expect to be good we ’ ve always had that sports rivalry .
. What are some things you feel that you still need to improve on as a player ? What is your strength ? Something I need to improve on is not over thinking as much and just playing basketball . With that being said some of my strengths are getting to the rim and handling the ball .
. Do you consider yourself to be a leader on this team ? If so what does that look like ? I do consider myself a leader on the team . For me this looks like always keeping a good attitude . To have outstanding effort . And to hold my teammates accountable but not in a way where I am talking down on them but motivating them to do better .
. What do you want Rebel fans to remember you for ? I want Rebel fans to remember me as a fun player to watch . Not just because I can score but because I have a lot of energy , and they know I ’ ll play hard .
