LETTER FROM THE TEACHING PROFESSIONAL
The next grip style and backswing is the side cover grip . The side cover grip is similar to on top in terms of the of backswing and path . The biggest issue is when a side cover player starts to bring the path to far to the inside and then the downswing requires a lot of “ untangling ” on the way down to the ball . The club face should be close to parallel to the spine angle as the club swings up . Side cover backswing will usually be more compact meaning the club will not go to parallel at the top of the swing .
The next grip and backswing is side on grip . The side on grip is very neutral and the backswing is one that could be considered aesthetically pleasing from the eye . The Side on grip will move the club in a linear manor on the backswing . The side on backswing tend to keep the trail elbow close to the body , club looking slightly laid off at the top .
The side under grip will have the palm facing up and would be considered a stronger trail hand grip . The side under backswing will take the club on an inside path and thus will keep the trail arm tucked in very close to the body . The side under backswing will have a more diagonal hinge to the hands , the club will look open at the top of the swing .
The final grip and backswing is the Under grip . This is very similar to a side under grip but now the palm of the right hand is fully underneath the handle facing all the way up . The club will swing back on an inside path and the lead elbow will start to fold early in the golf swing , and the right forearm will start to “ roll ” the club face open at the top of the swing .
I hope everyone has a great month of June on and off the golf course and look forward to seeing you all throughout the upcoming summer ! Take care and have a blessed one !
