LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Summer is here with the increasing temperatures and afternoon showers . We had a very productive June here at the club and look forward to continue our efforts rolling into July . Some focal points this month will be our weekly mowing schedule , herbicide applications on turf weeds , and a few bunker projects .
It is amazing how turf quality is improved with a consistent mowing schedule . Our greens are cut 5-6 days per week , tees / collars / fairways 2-3 days per week , and roughs are on a never-ending pattern . The more consistent we are the more it helps to train the bermudagrass at those heights of cut . This helps deter weed growth and disease issues from happening . It also creates an optimal hitting surface that heals quickly and stays consistent hole to hole .
The weed pressure on the course is at a manageable level currently . There are sections of the golf course that are worse than others . Holes 12-16 are our current problem areas with tropical signal grass . This is going to be an ongoing struggle at this property with the herbicides designated for this weed are expensive and highly regulated . It is currently better than last year , and I anticipate we will continue to gain traction in these areas in the years to come . Dave MacLennan ( our spray tech ) has a sharp eye and is very committed to this process . He is gaining traction on this issue and does a fantastic job keeping things at a manageable level .
In closing , I would like to congratulate another team member on the maintenance staff . James Grunholzer is our Eaglebrooke employee of the quarter . James has been working with us since April 2022 . James is a very positive person that comes to us all the way from Fort Meade . He is currently a student at Polk State College working his way through school . James is the type of guy that is always here when I need him and gives maximum effort every day . He is a great example of honesty , hard work , and integrity . Thank you , James !
