Rosie Mae Masters was an extraordinary mother and a remarkable role model . Wise . Kind . Self-less . No nonsense . She instilled in her children a commitment to social justice and a clear understanding that education is the way to ensure a life well lived . Mrs . Masters is the mother of the founder of the Greene Scholars Program , Debra Watkins . The Rosie Mae Masters Memorial Scholarship was instituted in 2008 to honor her memory . The recipient of this scholarship demonstrates how he / she will continue Mrs . Masters ’ legacy .

Bryson Young was an incredibly bright star in the Greene Scholars Program from 9th grade to 12th . He graduated from Piedmont Hills High School with a 4.25 GPA . When he passed away suddenly on June 28 , 2015 , he was in his 4th year at the University of California , Berkeley majoring in Spanish Language and Literature and on the Pre-Med track . Bryson ’ s desire was to become a physician and work in an underserved community . He had an infectious smile and a warm , compassionate , humble spirit . He touched multitudes in his short time on earth .

The recipient of the Bryson A . Young Memorial Award will be a graduating Greene Scholar who plans to pursue a career in STEM and exhibits character traits like Bryson Young .
