I N MEMORY . . .
We would like to dedicate the 2023 VACATIONS Rental Guide in memory of Sue Sneddon , the Emerald Isle Realty artist in residence for over 30 years . We lost Sue after a brief battle with cancer January 10 , 2022 . Beginning in the 1990s , every year Sue shared with us through her art beautiful brochure covers and interior pages of artwork , a detailed Emerald Isle Realty area map of the Crystal Coast and Emerald Isle , lovely and whimsical pages in the Barefoot Guide , fanciful holiday cards , note cards , then , beginning in 2004 , a radiant calendar that captured so well what her artist ’ s eye saw in the beauty of our small island and surrounding communities down east . Sue , a Pennsylvania gal by birth , grew to love all things about our island and down east Carteret County . Sue spent almost every autumnal equinox on Emerald Isle , choosing that time of year because of the luminous light where sky meets water and water meets sand during those early weeks of fall . Sue ’ s legacy will always be that she taught us to see the wonder in the world around us by paying attention to the great beauty in the smallest detail , and especially her beloved Emerald Isle .
CHANGING TIDES
We welcome this year our next generation of artists , Sarah Grenier Wax . Sarah attended the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston Salem , NC and studied art at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . Married to James Wax and mother of Allen and Summer , Sarah has rediscovered the pleasure of taking up paint and paint brushes . We are proud to have Sarah ’ s great gift and artistic talent as our newest Emerald Isle Realty artist in residence .
