UAB Medicine ’ s Cardio-Oncology program unites cardiologists , oncologists , and clinical researchers to improve cardiovascular health for patients with cancer being treated with surgery , chemotherapy , or radiation . As part of an important new concept in cardiac care , we identify potential risks associated with some cancer therapies and provide early intervention to help prevent long-term cardiovascular damage . UAB Cardio-Oncology follows patients throughout their cancer journey , from diagnosis through survivorship , to optimize their cardiovascular care .

• Awarded Gold Certification from the International Cardio-Oncology Society , the highest tier of certification
• Operates cardio-oncology clinics at The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital , The Kirklin Clinic at Acton Road , and UAB Medicine Primary & Specialty Care of Gardendale
• Offers a multidisciplinary clinic for patients being treated at UAB for amyloidosis
• Averages more than 1,400 patient visits annually
• Provides telehealth visits to ease the travel burden for returning cardio-oncology patients
• Develops collaborative cardiovascular monitoring plans for patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia ( CML ) being treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors
