The Brookland Bearcats have proven to be a top tier baseball program in Northeast Arkansas over the course of the last decade . The program has produced top level talent sending multiple players to the collegiate ranks while winning multiple trophies as a team along the way . Great coaches such as Preston Despain and Bill Taylor have led the way . Expectations haven ’ t changed as the Bearcats look to embark on another great season with their eyes on a state championship . Senior Cade Collins is one of those talented players that will be suiting up for Brookland in his final season . He looks to cap his career off by helping to lead Brookland to the finals . Collins understands the expectations and believes in his team . “ It is very important for a strong finish as a Bearcat this year ,” stated Collins . “ We have had two heartbreakers in the last two years being a top team in the state both years . It ’ s been my dream to win a state title , and I know my teammates and coaches want it just as much as I do . We are looking very solid . We only lost three key players last year , and we have had some studs step up in their position . The expectation is to win the state tournament , nothing less . Collins will make a big-time transition on the diamond defensively for the Bearcats . It ’ s a move that will play an integral role in the overall success of the team . “ I ’ m switching positions this year . I ’ ve played second base the last three years but I ’ m catching this year . My main focus this year is to catch a good game every game while knowing my pitchers and their tendencies to be productive as possible .” Collins believes that for the team to be successful , he will need to bat above . 350 while sporting an on base percentage of over . 500 . It ’ s certainly an attainable feat for a player that already hit in key positions for Coach Bill Taylor last season .
