. You have put together a spectacular playing career already . With one season to go what are you most looking forward to ? I am ready to go get back on the field and take care of our unfinished business from last season and make my senior year the best yet !
. You got to play for a state championship last season . What was that experience like for you and your teammates ? It was an incredible experience , I ’ ve played in many World Series and Nationals but nothing compared to a State Championship game . It was just amazing to be able to represent my school and to make history for the softball program .
. Obviously , you all came up just a bit short against a really good Tuckerman team . How disappointed were you in the outcome and did it leave a bad taste in your mouth ? I was extremely upset about the outcome of the game . We learned a lot and the experience has helped us to prepare for this year . But , we are ready to get back to Benton this year and bring home the title !
. I think it is safe to say that the Lady Warriors enter the 2023 softball season as the favorite to win state in class 2A . How important will it be for you and your teammates to get back to the finals and win it all ? What do you all have to do to ensure that you get there ? We are even more hungry for that state title this year ! As a team we have to know that rankings do not define us , and that any one team can have a bad game at any time . We have to work through our weaknesses and learn to work together to be the best .
. Who are some players on this season ’ s squad that you expect to have a really good season and why ? Being that we only lost one senior last year , we pretty much have the same team . I expect Natalie and Mercedes to come out with their bats hot . Terrin never fails to put the ball in play . We have gained three really great freshman that will help us tremendously in the field and in the box . I cannot wait to see how they perform !
. You play a significant role in every game you all play just about because you are the girl in the circle pitching for your team . Do you like have that responsibility on your shoulders ? What are your strengths as a pitcher ? I love having the responsibility on my shoulders . I want to be the one in the circle in a tight game , and I want my teammates to be able to depend on me . My strength as a pitcher is speed and spin . My pitching coach tells me speed can only get me a little way , but spin can get you a long way . I also love the way I command the circle . I do not let the batter define the at bat or the pitch .
. What has been your favorite moment over your playing career ? My favorite moment of my softball career has been winning the semifinals and advancing to the finals . I just loved how our whole town was behind us , and when Mercedes walked across the plate to win the game everyone was so electric , and that ’ s when I knew we had made history .
. From an offensive standpoint what do you feel you do best and what do you still feel like you need to polish up before the start of your senior campaign ? I feel like I put the ball in play a lot . Playing on a high-level travel team , I have seen a lot of amazing pitchers and one thing that I have learned how to do this offseason is read pitches , which helps me tremendously . Being a pitcher sometimes I can tell which pitch they are about to throw me . My hitting coach and I worked on reading spin and knowing when to hit each pitch . I need to work on not letting the moment get too big . Towards the end of the season , I was in a really bad slump , and I remember Coach Powell telling me to not let the moment be too big , just to be myself and do what I know how to do .
. What do you want EPC Warrior fans to remember you for ? I want the EPC fans to remember me as the pitcher who commanded her circle and the pitcher / hitter that lead them to the state finals .
