In 2023 , Home of the Innocents achieved Sanctuary™ certification . Sanctuary™ certification symbolizes an organization ’ s commitment to providing a higher level of care , a trauma-sensitive environment for the people they serve , and a better work environment for team members . Sanctuary™ certification is designed to promote , sustain , and strengthen an organization ’ s commitment to the maintenance of a trauma informed culture for all its stakeholders .
Home of the Innocents is the first nonprofit organization in Louisville to achieve this designation , and the second in the state of Kentucky .
2018 : Home of the Innocents secured $ 250,000 in funding to implement the Sanctuary™ model and hosted a site visit to determine first steps
2020 : Utilized Zoom to hold virtual meetings as team members processed the pandemic and social justice protests ; Board of Directors kicks off strategic planning , utilizing 2 Sanctuary™ tools , the 7 Commitments and Community Meeting .
2019 : Sanctuary™ Kick Off Event in the Home ’ s backyard ; team members create Sanctuary™ Core and Training teams and the first round of training is offered .
